A New Yarnbomb by Zsa Zsa (aka GuerillaKnitter)

For more than seven years my friend Zsa Zsa, aka Guerilla Knitter, worked a little on crocheting one of those old-school granny square throws. You know, the ones with the colorful centers surrounded by black borders?

Well, she went to visit her parents and saw a hideous phone company equipment cover in their otherwise beautiful backyard. Something had to be done!

The size of the piece was already very close to the size she needed for the cozy. She attached a couple more rows to the afghan and quickly crocheted up a circular piece for the top and sewed the whole thing together. It looks great! If the phone company needs access, they can just pull the cozy off. Goodbye hideous equipment, hello yarnbomb!

The installation coincided with this year’s International Yarnbombing Day. And Worldwide Knit in Public Day.

Wandering Around Stillwater, MN

I spent a day wandering around Stillwater, Minnesota, last fall. It’s a cute little town on the St. Croix River not far from the Twin Cities.

Stillwater is one of the oldest towns in Minnesota. It was incorporated as a city in 1854, and at that time it was the largest town in the state! The lumber industry is what put Stillwater on the map.┬áNowadays it’s a tourist destination.

Stillwater Lift Bridge

The Stillwater Lift Bridge is a vertical-lift bridge that crosses the St. Croix River and connects Stillwater to Wisconsin. There’s another lift bridge in Duluth. More on that one soon.

Here are a few more photos from the day.
